When hosting your own bachelor party, it's better to make large batches ahead of time. If you can, you'll be able to spend more time with your guests and less time stuck behind the bar.
WHAT'S HIS POISON?
Some quick Bachelor Party cocktail how-tos
While I was stumbling around the net, cursing at the sun, and nursing what will be the first of several crippling hangovers I have planned for this weekend, I happened to come across the following “How To” clips for making cocktails. This got me thinking about those bachelor parties that are not spent on the inside of a bar or club, but those thrown inside of hotel rooms or inside of someone’s house, where the host must play their own bartender. In order to pull this off effectively, there are several things you’re going to need to remember ahead of time:
K.I.S.S. (Keep It Simple, Stupid)
It should just be common sense that the more time you spend behind the bar, the less time you’ll be able to spend with your guests. That’s why I recommend the cocktails below. They’re all ultra simple and can be prepared in minutes. As a matter of fact, the videos below are two minutes or less for each one. That should be a good guideline for how fast you should be able to turn around each drink order. Try and keep the ingredient list to a minimum and avoid any complicated drinks that take hours to prepare like the plague.
Make Big Batches
This doesn’t work for all drinks – namely those that are iced (like blended margaritas) – as the ice melts and waters down the drink. But, if you can do any of the mixing ahead of time – say, the day before – it’ll cut down on the work you have to do on the day of the party. One of the best things to make ahead of time is Jello Shots. These will stay good in your refrigerator for at least a week and are really easy to make and serve. Kegworks has all the supplies you need to make them, as well as a great selection of Jello Shot recipes
that you should check out, including flavors like cherry cola, Dreamsicle, and Sour Apple.
Be Prepared
I cannot possibly under-emphasize the importance of having the right bartending equipment for your home bar. Attempting to make the following drinks without the proper equipment would be the bachelor party equivalent of trying to change out the carburetor of a Maserati with a butter knife. If you don’t, have the following items, then you should buy them as soon as possible:
- Cocktail Shaker
- Cocktail Strainer
- Cocktail Jigger
(for measuring pours)
- Bar Spoon
(with a long handle for stirring)
- Bottle Opener
- Citrus Reamer (a necessity for Mojitos)
- Blender (Duh.)
- Cups and/or Nice Cocktail Glasses
So, you’ve got all your supplies. You’ve got all your booze. So, what’s missing? Oh, yeah…technique! Well don’t worry about it. Maybe you can’t flip your bottles in the air like Tom Cruise in “Cocktail” – but you can still learn how to make a drink that will knock your Doomed Groom’s socks off. Just watch the videos on the next page and not only will you have step-by-step instructions on how to whip up some of the classics (Margaritas, Martinis, Long Island Ice Tea, etc.), but you’ll also have some great ideas for some unusual and wild cocktails that will really get your party rockin’.
So… Jager Bomb, anybody?
